Maci is still not draining off her dialysis fluid as well as she has in the past and she gained a good bit of weight again when she was weighed last night.
Most of the explanations for her not draining, she is not experiencing. The other explanation, a weakening or thickening if the peritoneum membrane, is one that is NOT good. This would mean having to discontinue her peritoneal dialysis. They've not done hemodialysis (the other type of dialysis) on someone as young as Maci. Due to the process of cleaning the blood, she's too small to really be a candidate for hemodialysis.
Her nephrologist said we are not in a crisis situation right now but he doesn't want to wait on consulting the other nephro docs, should we find ourselves faced with an emergency.
Monday night, 1/24, Maci's weight was 8 lbs 5 oz. Last night her weight was 10 lbs. So in five days she gained 1.5 lbs, all fluid,
The nephrologist put her solely on the dialysis mixture, 4.25% which theoretically pulls off the most fluid. The change was made at 1:00 pm and Maci is currently in a negative output number. This is what we want, a negative number, as a positive indicates fluid she kept in her body. The higher percentage of dialysate that she's on can cause damage to her peritoneum membrane so to keep her on the 4.25 is not good. Prior to the change she was on a 50/50 mix of 4.25 and 2.5.
This definitely delays our going home. We were on such a good path until this past week!!! I am heartbroken for my poor baby! I can only hope and pray that as quickly as she made this turn, things can turn back around.
PLEASE, PLEASE, pray for my baby girl.
