Let's Get A Kidney - Maci hit 22 lbs!!

What a way to end the month of November.  I weighed Maci before dialysis last night and she weighed 10 kilograms which is 22 lbs!
She always seems to weigh heavier in the morning, after filling for the last time with the 100 mLs of fluid that is left in from her last cycle of dialysis.  So when I count her weight, I go by her evening weight.  This morning she weighed 10.12 kgs (22.264 lbs).

We go to clinic on December 18th.  I know that once Maci hit 22 lbs, her doc would need to write a letter to the transplant team to let them know Maci was a candidate for transplant.  After that, I am in the dark.  I don't know how soon we will have our first meeting with them, when they will begin testing for a match, Rick will test first, or what the process is for getting ready for transplant.
I think I am going to call the dialysis clinic Monday with the news and see if the ball can get rolling.  I can be optimistic can't I?

It was a year ago today, at about 7/7:30 pm that I was a nervous wreck and in tears as Maci was was about to take her first ride in a vehicle, an ambulance, as she was transferred from Methodist Germantown to Le Bonheur.  I rode with the transfer crew and Rick came behind us, driving.  I had NO idea what to expect.  All I knew was something was wrong with my brand new baby girl's kidneys, the kidney doc did not offer a ton of hope, told us a kidney transplant among other things were in Maci's future....if she made it to the weight required to even get a transplant and I was scared.
It was that evening that I met Maci's first Le Bonheur nurse, Sarah.  I may not be able to remember when the last time I brushed my hair was but I will never forget that night and how Sarah made me feel welcome and comfortable and tried to make me feel that things really would be ok once we became more acclimated.  At the time, I thought wow, what a nurse to go out of her way.....after spending so much time at Le Bonheur, I learned that was just Sarah's way....it was in her nature to often go above and beyond.
Over the following several months, I learned it was also the "way" of several other nurses.  I will never, ever tire of saying how much many of the nurses mean to me and how WONDERFUL they are as nurses and as people!

Thank you to those who have shared in supporting us through prayer and good wishes.......look where we've been.  Look where we are!
