Happy MOO Year!

Happy New Year everyone.  Rick and I spent the night at the hospital with Maci.  She was sacked out at the turn of the year and Rick and I were too just after midnight.  Maci did dress up for her first year and spent her first NYE in downtown Memphis far sooner than I ever did!  LOL

Dressed for NYE

Everyone must have a NY party hat!

Passed out cold at midnight.

Happy New Year from our family to yours!

Maci's hematocrit has gone up a little bit.  They are doing lab work every 24-36 hours now instead of every 12 hours.  Limiting the number of blood draws will help stabilize her hematocrit.  She is also continuing to get the injections (Epogen:   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epoetin_alfa) every M, W & F that help stimulate production of red blood cells.  Dr. Joi said there is room to work with the Epo injections too if her hematocrit was to get too low.  They could increase the amount of Epo instead of immediately doing another blood transfusion.  That was good news for me to hear.

Maci is doing well with the 60 mLs of fluid for dialysis.  She is also up to averaging about half of her 62 mLs of milk by mouth and the rest is tubed (goes through her nasal tube).  She's doing well.  The Nephrologist, Dr. Eison, said today that we will likely bump up to 70 mLs in the next day or two.  (Reminder that Maci has to be tolerating 100 mLs well, to go home.)

Lab work has also improved.  Moo's BUN had risen to the 60's about a week ago.  That's a sign of the blood not getting thoroughly cleaned with dialysis.  Yesterday her BUN was down to 26, Creatinine was 2.12!  Overall, things are going REALLY well.  With the BUN level not so high, Maci is awake more often.  This gives Rick and me more time to play with her, talk to her and laugh at her.  She has no idea the funny things she does but she literally will have us laughing out loud.

Thank you for the prayers; they work!

  4. I saw a link to your blog on facebook, so I came to read Maci's story. I went back to the beginning and read every post, (smiled a little and cried a little). I just wanted to say to you that I will be praying for your precious Maci and your family. You and your daughter's strength is amazing and inspirational to me! I hope all continues to go well and I wish nothing but the very best for you both. :)
