The Gift of a Kidney

Yesterday was Maci's monthly dialysis clinic day.  While we were there, one of the young girls that we see monthly in clinic, who was also on peritoneal dialysis (PD), came down to visit from her hospital room.  She was hoping to be discharged yesterday.....one week after receiving her kidney transplant!  She looked great, was walking around and moving well and said she felt good.  She was happy to be OFF dialysis and said she would take 13 meds daily of doing dialysis any day.

A coworker and friend of the Mom was her donor.  I got chill bumps hearing the story.  They started the transplant process in March and three months later, this girl has her new kidney, her new life....all becuase someone was kind enough to "share their spare".
I can only hope that this time next year, I am sharing Maci's amazing, successful story of transplant.

This week is National Transplant Awareness week (in the UK but I'm celebrating here in the US!).  If you are not an organ donor, I ask you to search your heart and consider signing up to be one.
You can read more on organ and tissue donation, read stories of donation / life saving and learn the facts / myths about donation and sign up at these sites:

Everything went well in clinic.  No changes.  We just keep on, keepin on!  This morning when I weighed Maci after dialysis she weight 15.444 lbs!  Grow Maci Grow!
