Thaaaaaaaaaaaank you to those who have expressed interest in testing for Maci. What a selfless act of kindness that I cannot even do justice by offering a simple thank you. It doesn't seem enough.
I wanted to let people know that testing is anonymous. We are not notified of anyone or even the number of people who test or who call to inquire about testing.
If someone tests and is NOT a match, only they are notified. If someone IS a match anonymity is still protected. I'm not quite sure of when we would even know who someone is, that's a match, once they decide to proceed with donation.
We are only made aware of someone who tests if they decide to tell us themselves.
I just wanted to share this information since I've had a few people say "what if I'm not a match and you're disappointed?" "What if they deny me because of..........?".
I would NEVER be disappointed. Never. If someone was not a match for Maci, just the willingness of them trying would be HUGE to me. HUGE! How could I possibly be let down by someone who is voluntarily willing to undergo surgery, have an organ removed from their body and have to take time to recuperate from surgery? This, all to give my child a chance of a better life, free of dialysis for what we hope and pray to be many, many years? I would feel blessed that they tried. If someone were denied, I would have the same feelings!
Maybe this will help some who were considering testing it but may not be aware that we would never know who you are unless you told us that you tested.
I do know of one person who has already called to get on the list for testing. I cannot thank them enough. I think they are awesome! THANK YOU!
